What You'll Learn

The course uses the American Red Cross component system, offering a better balance of foundational training with the flexibility for returning students to focus on additional or updated skills. Scouts working on merit badge requirements will find the format well suited to their needs.

Responding to Emergencies

How to recognize and respond to common medical emergencies, with an emphasis on accident prevention and scene safety.

Adult CPR/AED

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator use, taught following the American Red Cross Community Training outline with realistic video scenarios.

First Aid Basics

Assessment and care for injuries and sudden illness, covering wounds, burns, fractures, and other common emergencies.

Certifications

Upon successful completion, participants receive American Red Cross certification valid for two years. Keeping your certification current is important — many Scout activities, high adventure trips, and leadership roles require current CPR/AED and First Aid credentials.

American Red Cross certification valid for two years. Required as a prerequisite for the Wilderness and Remote First Aid course.

First Aid Basics

American Red Cross certification valid for two years. Covers the foundational skills needed to respond to common emergencies.

Merit Badge Credit

Scouts completing this course will satisfy requirements for relevant merit badges. Check with your counselor for current requirements.

Reservations & Registration

Advance reservations are required — classes fill quickly. Walk-in registrations are not accepted. If you have not received a group or individual confirmation, you are not registered.

Class reservations close when the course is full or at 5:00 PM on the Monday before the scheduled class date.
